I've known a student since her first quarter in college. She's all ready and set to participate in graduation ceremonies on June 20th.
The gown's been bought.
The invitations have been sent.
A party has been planned in her honor.
....But she will not officially graduate.
oh, she'll get to join her classmates on the 20th. However, she'll have to wait another year to be officially done with college. She needs to retake a class to complete requirements for her major.
Why?
Because in a class that is only offered once a year and only in the Spring quarter, she turned in a paper that was worth 40% of her final grade that was about 60% plagiarized.
It's grounds for expulsion. But the officials are 'giving her a break' and just giving her an 'F'.
I saw her earlier today & she has no clue that meetings and discussions have been going on the past 2 days about what to do with the situation. She will be informed on Monday.
I can't believe she did that! She's always been a good student. I couldn't even look at her when she came in today. I am so disappointed in her.
On the flip side, there may have been something going on in her life to just take the easy way out. But still....she should have known better.

That is really unfortunate.
Usually people unintentionally plagarize. They are just not using proper citation or are ignorant of plagarism specifics.
Hopefully, that was the case for her : /
