2012, please be better!

Well, Hello blogland! I can't believe I've been gone from here this long (hangs head in shame!)
I'll be honest, I've been quiet lazy getting on the computer since I've had my iPad. And well, it's almost like my boys know I want to update the blog and that's when the chaos ensues! ahhhh, such is life.
One of my 'goals' for 2012 was to not neglect this blog. So let me update you as to why it's now March and I'm finally getting around to it...
Some of you may know what's happened in our household since the new year, so bear with me...
The New Year started with everyone in our household healthy - not a sniffle, a booger or a fever in sight. After the first week though, things changed!
The hubs started getting sick, the baby was having diarrhea (due to teething) and me? Well, no fever, but I noticed that my lymph nodes on my throat were swelling up pretty bad. I was having a hard time swallowing and my throat was hurting really bad. So, off to urgent care I go. The triage nurse took one look at me and immediately started an IV of antibiotics on me. Two hours later, the doctor tells me I needed to head over to the hospital. Great. I thought it was just for more antibiotics. Nope. I ended up being admitted and spent a 3 day weekend in the hospital. They never really told me what was wrong, just that I had an infection. ok, whatever. At least I got better, right?
Fast forward to January 18th, the day before my birthday. The baby was STILL having diarrhea plus to add to the madness, he was throwing up...every hour! I took him to urgent care and was immediately advised to take him the hospital. Yep, spent a good portion of my birthday in the emergency room with the baby! Fun times, I tell ya!
Two weeks later, right when we are about to celebrate my curly haired boy's 3rd birthday, I woke up to some craaaazy abdominal pain. The pain was none that I've ever felt...it was worst than labor pains in my opinion! Turned out I had a gallstone as large as a big marble. I ended up having surgery to remove my gallbaladder on my second baby's 3rd birthday. I was so sad to have missed his birthday.
It was supposed to be an outpatient procedure....have the surgery at 7 pm and I should have been out of the hospital by early morning. But not the case with me! I ended up getting a really high fever - -104 F degrees and even after I was given meds, the fever did not go down until 2 days after! Aaaand add the fact that my blood levels were all over the place(potassium was low even after I was getting it thru IV, blood cells were not where they should be, etc) ugh. Out patient procedure turned into a week long stay in the hospital. Thank goodness for wi-fi at the hospital and my iPad!
The doctor wanted me to stay longer, but I begged him to let me go home. He agreed on one condition. I go home with an IV line (hanging outta my arm) and continue giving myself antibiotics thru the IV line at home....every 4 hours for one more week. Fun times with that IV pole. Fun times.
I thought I could finally breathe and say we had our fill of the ER and/or urgent care. Nope, not the case!
A couple of weeks ago, as we were heading out to a birthday party, the straps of the baby bag that the hubs was carrying snagged the corner of a tool box in the garage and wouldn't you know it!?!? the tool box fell on the hubs' toes (because we were having a beautiful southern CA day, he was wearing flip flops) He thought a toe or two may be broken, so off to the urgent care we went instead of the party. Thankfully, no broken toes, just very badly sprained. But man, oh man! we are so done with the ER or urgent care!
Here's to hoping that the rest of 2012 will be a healthy one!

My goodness! I hope everyone is doing better now! I don't blame you for neglecting your blog, I think anyone going through all of that would. =)
That's crazy about your gallstone/gallbladder removal - I know 2 people that have had their gallbladders removed in the last month and my cousin is currently dealing with and battling kidney stones. Must be an epidemic or something.
Ya'll stay healthy now!
