And now we are complete

The baby will be 5 months soon and I have yet to do his birth story. Bad mama!

So here it is...

The night before I had the baby, I was tossing and turning quite a bit and kept getting up to use the restroom every 20-30 minutes. The. whole. night. gah!

By 7:30 am on April 16, 2011, the whole family was up. I told the hubs that I was super tired and my back ached due to the lack of sleep. He gave me the side eye and asked me if I could possibly be in labor. "Ha!" I told him, "Trust me, I'll let you know when it's time." "Ok," he responded, but I think we should go get you checked". And no more than 5 minutes after he said that, I told him I was feeling some cramping.

He kicked it into high gear and started to get the 2 older boys ready to get dropped off at my cousin's place. Me? I told him it wasn't time just yet and that I wanted to take a shower and eat some breakfast. (which by the way, I did)

By 8:30am, he had us ushered out the door to drop the boys off. I was still dawdling. When we dropped the boys off, he did a drive by drop off- didn't even turn the van off. I was still not thinking I was in labor! I even got mad at him for just 'dumping' the boys off!

We got to the hospital about 9am.

I told the hubs to just park the van since who knew how long we'd be there. It finally sunk in that I was in labor when I couldn't take 2 steps after getting out of the van. Not because of pain mind you (All I was feeling was mild cramping!)....but because of the pressure 'down there'. The hubs ran inside to get a wheelchair and pretty much raced me to the Labor and Delivery floor. All the while, I'm telling him that he's a nut case, to slow down, it's probably just the beginning of labor. Ha! little did I know...

So, we get to L&D and they put me in the room to check how far along I was dilated and all that nice stuff. The nurse left so I could change into one of those oh so flattering hospital gowns and didn't come back! The nurse later told me that she didn't think they'd have to hurry with me because I sure didn't look like I was in labor with all that laughing and joking the hubs and I were doing.

After waiting for what felt like a long time, which really was only like 5 mins, I had the hubs go get the nurse because while I was waiting for her to come back, my water broke. By this time, the 'cramping' was hurting, but on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being really painful, I kept saying it was about a 5 to 6.

The nurse came back, checked me and announced, "Oh my goodness! you are 10 cm dilated! you ready to push?"

Jigga whaaaa??

They had me walk across the room to the closest delivery room. I walked in and it was obviously not prepped for a delivery. But as I settled in the bed, the nurses were in a flurry to get it ready!

One nurse was still trying to hook an IV on me when the other nurse asked me to do some practice pushes for her.

Oh hell no, I thought. If I give her one good push, the baby will come flying out! A quick look around the room and it still wasn't ready. I gave a couple of half hearted pushes and even she could tell I wasn't really pushing.

By then the doctor came in and I was so relieved to see that it was my OB-GYN that was the doctor on call that morning. She gowned up and we were ready to do the real pushing.

Three pushes later and I was holding my beautiful baby boy!

Baby K was born at 9:15am at 7 pounds, 8.5 ounces. He was 19 inches long.

And with his arrival...our family is complete.
